Medium of Instruction Policy for New Senior Secondary Curriculum

1. S.3 promoting to S.4: In general, 3A (English Class) will be promoted to 4A.

   3B – 3E will be promoted to 4B – 4E according to students’ academic results.

2.  For Mathematics lessons in 4A to 6A, English will be used as the medium of instruction and textbooks in English will be adopted. For Mathematics lessons in 4B - 4E and 5B – 5D and 6B - 6E , Chinese will be used as the medium of instruction and textbooks in Chinese will be adopted.

Remarks:
1. If Chinese is used as the medium of instruction, textbooks in Chinese will be adopted. Also, exercises, homework, assessment papers, and examinations (including school-based assessments and public examinations) will be in Chinese.
2.1 If mixed codes are used as the medium of instruction, textbooks in Chinese or in English will be adopted. Also, exercises / homework, assessment papers / examinations (including public examinations) will be in Chinese or English.
2.2 In order to select elective subjects which use English as the medium of instruction, students are required to get an overall average mark of 50 in S.3 English Language subject and pass the subject-based English assessment test which is held at the beginning of the S4 school term.
2.3 Students are not allowed to change to adopt another medium of instruction without approval. If students wish to change the medium of instruction, they are required to apply for an approval within the designated period.
